Camp week information

Extensive information for parents

After the bags are packed, the vacation week at De Kaag can begin. Fun and safety are paramount during this week-long getaway. The detailed information below hopefully answers any questions surrounding your son/daughter's summer camp. If you still have questions after reading this information please feel free to contact us. We are happy to help!

Bedtimes during the camp

There are set bedtimes for the children. The children up to 8 years old go to sleep at 20:00, up to 10 years old at 21:00, up to 12 years old 21:30, up to 14 years old 22:00, up to 16 years old 23:00 and participants over 16 years old 00:00. Boys and girls sleep separately even if they are brother and sister or boyfriend and girlfriend.

There is a night watch; it is provided by a male and female instructor. The instructors will always check the sleep section in pairs.

Availability

During the vacation weeks, our office can be reached by phone between 09:00 and 18:00 on the phone number 0252-544333. In the evening hours the number of the office is connected to one of the mobile numbers of the management so that you can always reach us in case of an emergency.

For parents who wish to call their child(ren) they can be reached between 09:00 and 09:30 and between 17:30 and 19:00 at telephone number 0252-544514. The children have their own mobile between 17:00 and 18:00. They may not have their phones until later due to the day's program.

Food, drink, diets and medication

Lunch is served at noon at the sailing school. During the day the students are given drinks and cookies from the motorboat. Lemonade/water and pieces of fruit are always available at the accommodation.

If your son/daughter has special needs in the form of a diet, allergy, medication or similar please indicate this on the registration form or contact us. We will ensure that this is taken into account.

A penny for the SRV cart or for the candy machine may be desirable. We do not recommend bringing large amounts of money!

Unwanted behaviour

Bullying and discrimination will not be tolerated with us at de Kaag. Unfortunately, it is increasingly common among children of all ages these days. We are therefore also aware of this and will be alert to it and deal with it appropriately.

Alcohol, smoking and drugs

Logically, children attending camp with us are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages or smoke. From the age of 18, alcohol consumption and smoking are allowed in designated areas, albeit in moderation. We have a zero tolerance policy regarding drugs at our location.
The moment we see otherwise we will be forced to inform the parents and ask them to pick up their child from the camp immediately.

Instructors/Camp leadership

Each instructor completed an internship period of approximately six weeks. This internship is completed with an exam for CWO level IV and a Proof of Competence. From that moment they may call themselves sailing instructor 3 and independently teach beginning and semi-advanced students (average at 18 years of age). Even the sailing instructor 3 is still supervised by the sailing instructors 4, the trainers and the staff. The objective of sailing school "De Kaag" is to offer students of all ages exactly what they want. The main objective is a fun week where safety comes first and a good water sports education. To achieve this, we train our instructors every year. The instructor always has an exemplary role towards the children and we take this into account. Most instructors have also been students at 'De Kaag' or another CWO sailing school. All instructors have the necessary CWO diplomas and the instructors who are part of the staff team also have a BHV (first aid) diploma. During the summer months there is a permanent team for the kitchen and housekeeping. The organization is led by Guido van Rijn (owner and son of founder Lex van Rijn). Together with his team he is responsible for programming, fleet and general management and organization.

Age categories

Each camp uses an age group. Therefore every child will be in a group with children of about the same age. This is the most fun for the child and is a matter of course for us. All day and evening activities are also adapted to the ages of the children.

Parking

Because we have limited parking on the island, we recommend that you do not enter the island by car. You can park behind Brasserie "MATT'S" on the Buitenkaag. Then you can take the ferry and it is about a 10-minute walk to the sailing school.

Sleeping at home or with us?

For the youngest kids, or for kids who still have some trouble sleeping somewhere else, we offer the external variant. You participate all day from 09:00 but go home in the evening around 17:30. Alternatively, you can also participate in the evening program and dinner (external +). Then the day will end for you around 20:30 and your parents will pick you up again. Staying overnight (internal) is of course also possible.

Transport service to the sailing school

We would love to welcome you at our Watersport Academy de Kaag. The Watersport Academy is located at Wilhelminalaan 12-16 on Kaag Island.

We recommend parking your car at the Buitenkaag, the cost for the ferry is €1 per person. The ferry is free for children up to 8 years old. This is a walk of about 10 minutes across the island.

Insurance

Participants must arrange their own liability, property, travel and/or health insurance. Any costs incurred are to be borne by yourself or by your insurance company.

Pocket money/mobile phones

A penny for the SRV cart or for the candy machine may be desirable. We recommend bringing a maximum of 15 euros.

Because it is so cozy with us at de Kaag , a cell phone is actually not necessary! The children hand these in during the day, they may use their phones between 5:00 and 6:00 pm. Smartwatches, Nintendo, iPad etc. we recommend leaving them at home.

Found objects

Should items get lost we will collect them in the lost and found. On Friday night and Saturday we will set these up so the items can go directly to the right owner. We encourage all parents to watch this carefully. We will keep these items for two weeks. After these two weeks the stuff will be taken to charity. If you do miss something, we do not correspond about found items by phone. You can only send an email to info@dekaag.nl, if your lost and found is found we will send it to you, the cost is € 15, - (within the Netherlands).
